When Ted and Pam first arrived in the village in 1972 from Ashted in
Surrey, they were welcomed as ex Round Tablers into an organization by
the name of Old Lags (an unofficial group not to be confused with 41
Club which had yet to be formed).
When we were invited to form a Rotary Club by our mother club, Amersham,
they approached ex Tablers from both Great Missenden and Amersham.
By this time Ted was well integrated into the community as a well liked
and respected Pharmacist in Prestwood. One of his greatest attributes
was his incredible modesty. For example, how many of his fellow
Rotarians knew that he was a Freeman of The City of London or that he
trecked over the Sahara on foot and pony to see the newly found cave
paintings in the Turig mountains or that he represented Surrey at squash
or that he was a very above average painter in oils and water colours?
He also represented The Club at golf, snooker and bowls.
Ted became very involved in our formation and was Senior Vice-president
the year I was President (85/86) setting the standard for those who
followed him in that position. His own Presidency in 86/87 was both
enjoyable and industrious.
Extemely intelligent with a wicked sense of humour and always there for
all who asked for his help - we will all miss you old friend and hope
that Pam and family will not hesitate in asking for our support at any
time. Peter Booth
